Mercer OKs New Doctorate Program, Tuition Hike

Psychology
Looking for a Psychology program. Well seems Mercer has one but it may cost you a bit more.

Mercer University’s board of trustees approved the university’s sixth doctorate program Friday -- a five-year program in clinical medical psychology that’s one of just two of its kind in the country.

During their meeting in Macon, the trustees also approved a $193.4 million operating budget for the next academic year, an $8 million increase from current budget levels, while raising undergraduate tuition by 2.92 percent.

Meanwhile, tuition for most graduate and professional programs will rise between 3 percent and 5.3 percent. Tuition will not increase for undergraduate programs for working adult students, according to a Mercer news release.

“The economy, while improving, still poses challenges for many of our students and their families,” Mercer President William Underwood said in the release. “We must remain sensitive to those challenges while finding innovative ways to continue delivering the high-quality programs and services that our students deserve and expect.”

Regarding the new doctorate program, the five-year doctorate in clinical medical psychology is aimed at preparing students to become licensed to practice clinical psychology or to get jobs in higher education and research.
