University of Texas, names Theresa M. Lee as new College of Arts and Sciences dean

Top Psychology professor to lead the University of Texas psychology department.

Following a nationwide search, Theresa M. Lee has been named dean of the University of Tennessee College of Arts and Sciences.

Lee, who is chair of the University of Michigan Department of Psychology, will begin Jan. 1, 2012.

Lee has held a number of administrative positions at the University of Michigan, including most recently chair of the Department of Psychology. She is also a professor in the neuroscience program and a research scientist in the reproductive sciences program.

For example, the Baker College Center for Graduate Studies recently announced in a press release that it will launch an online master's degree in psychology with a special focus on industrial/organizational (I/O). Students can enroll in the new program this fall.

Psych Day to feature résumé-building workshop, games, potluck

Acieved your psychology degee! Well where you can look to help postion yourself to find the best job.

The Cal State Long Beach Psychology Student Association and Psi Chi Honor Society will host the 39th annual Psychology Day, an informative fair filled with workshops, games and food on Wednesday.

"During the graduate fair, reps are invited from different grad programs to come and share their schools," said Cecillee Espanol, College of Liberal Arts representative for PSA and Psi Chi.

The fair begins at 10 a.m. in the courtyard with games such as inkblots and "Psych Jeopardy." In addition, there will be information on graduate schools, internships and volunteer opportunities from organizations like CoachArt, BLAST and the Boys and Girls Club.

Social Psychology Graduate Student Highlight

Learn what a psychology degree, or even a second-year social psychology graduate student can accomplish.

Second-year social psychology graduate student Tom Dirth could use more hours in a day to accomplish everything he wants to do.

Aside from conducting research with professors in social psychology, doing coursework in graduate classes while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, writing his thesis, following March Madness basketball and more, Dirth finds the time to teach. As an instructor for an Introduction to Psychology class at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Dirth educates others on an area of study that has always fascinated him.

"I was always interested in knowing the mind, how people interact, form groups and those types of things," he said. "Social psychology interested me because it has both research and academic aspects and implications for social justice."
