Baker College Center for Graduate Studies Adds Master of Science Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology
Baker College Center for Graduate Studies officials announce the addition of a Master of Science in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology degree program beginning September 2011. The program will be offered online and is based on a practitioner-scholar model: the study of behavior in organizational and work settings and the application of the theories, methods, approaches and principles of psychology to individuals and groups in the workplace and other organizational settings. Psychology, the science of behavior, always references practical implications. A psychologist explores why people behave as they do and which internal or external conditions determine or stimulate behavior. I/O psychology practitioners focus on the same questions in relation to human behavior in the workplace.

Social Psychology Graduate Student Highlight
Second-year social psychology graduate student Tom Dirth could use more hours in a day to accomplish everything he wants to do.
Aside from conducting research with professors in social psychology, doing coursework in graduate classes while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, writing his thesis, following March Madness basketball and more, Dirth finds the time to teach. As an instructor for an Introduction to Psychology class at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Dirth educates others on an area of study that has always fascinated him.
"I was always interested in knowing the mind, how people interact, form groups and those types of things," he said. "Social psychology interested me because it has both research and academic aspects and implications for social justice."

University graduate programs remained among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2012 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools. The School of Law tied for 35th and the College of Education tied for 46th.
“Rankings such as these are satisfying because they are a reflection of the quality of the programs at the University of Georgia,” said UGA President Michael F. Adams. “As we begin to implement a new strategic plan with a focus on graduate and professional education, we do so knowing that the foundation on which we will expand is strong and the state of Georgia is well-served by these programs.”
